Although it’s only February, it’s looking like winter is going to come to an early close this year and that means it’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning. With the weather changes, it’s natural to want to spruce up the house a little bit. Something that may go unnoticed in your cleaning routine is your HVAC system. It has labored all winter to keep you warm and could probably use some tuning up. The HVAC experts at Knight Plumbing have highlighted some of our top tips for cleaning your system below. Check it out!

Change Your Filters

One of the simplest things you can do to improve your HVAC system and keep it clean is to replace your filter. The air that circulates through your house passes through that filter, so it can get dirty very easily. Generally, you should replace your filter every three months. This limits the amount of dust and dirt that is passing through the system. Another reason to change your filter before spring is to filter out the most pollen possible, since spring is allergy season. Being able to filter out the most pollen possible will save you from nights with a stuffed nose.

Clean Your Vents

Another very simple thing you can do to get your HVAC ready for spring is to clean your vents. It’s fairly common to have plenty of dust and dirt piling up over time, and all you have to do is use a duster to swipe back and forth on the vent. If you want to get a little bit deeper of a clean, you can even remove the vents and use cleaning chemicals on them. For ceiling vents you may have to get a ladder to clean them out, but they are just as important to clean.

Get a Tune-Up

Something that you don’t need to do as often as replacing filters and cleaning your vents, is scheduling a tune-up appointment. A good rule of thumb is to get it tuned up annually. This is an especially good idea as the weather starts to warm up as it can give you an extra level of confidence that you aren’t going to be without air conditioning in the warm spring weather.
